TSI Timers reply to Bergstrom claim
27th September: The TSI Timing Crew who run timing operations at Santa Pod Raceway have issued a Press Release in response to
Svensk DragRacing's press release (below).

Eurodragster is independent of any track or drag racing association, and has no interest whatsoever in becoming involved in arguments. It is, however, only fair to let TSI have their own say as we have published Ronnie Bergstrom's press release. As ever we leave it to our readers to make up their minds on this matter.

The TSI Press Release reads:

"Following the articles recently published regarding Ronnie Bergstrom's achievements at the FIA European Finals, TSI Timers feels it is necessary to respond with the following press release.

We are in no doubt at all that the diaper fitted to Ronnie's car affected the timing system. The average 60 foot time for the event in Pro Modified (not including Ronnie) was 1.163 seconds. Ronnie's average was 1.021 seconds. In the semi-finals Ronnie was ordered to remove the diaper and consequently his 60 foot time was 1.131 seconds. In the final where it is believed the diaper was replaced his 60 foot time was 1.004 seconds. If you discount the semi-final run his average 60 foot time was 0.999 seconds. The Americans are struggling to get within a tenth of these times and they are running into the 6.3's.

The above data proves the claim that his 60 foot times were unaffected by the removal of the diaper is untrue.

In addition, the technical crew never apologised to Ronnie as they had no reason to."

Ronnie Bergstrom sets new European record
24th September: We've just received confirmation that Ronnie Bergstrom set a new European Pro Mod record at the European Finals at Santa Pod Raceway, 11th - 13th September.

Championship results / points standings
18th September: We are currently updating our
points standings page. The FIA and FIM results are now available, as are the ACU UK Dragbike Championship standings. If you publish results/standings for any drag racing championships in Europe, please send details to news@eurodragster.com and we'll be glad to link to your site. If you don't have a web site, mail us the results/standings and we'll publish them here on EuroDragster.

Free DragRacer.com email address - Update
18th September: Last week, we suggested that DragRacer.com may add advertisements to email sent from their free email service. Brent Gould has written assuring us that this is not the case and they have no plans ever to do so. Basically, you see an ad when you log in to collect your mail and that's it. They are also considering introducing a bi-monthly newsletter, which will contain automotive related ads selected on a regional basis. To get your free DragRacer.com email address, go to http://www.dragracer.com.

Sheavills blasts to championship win
14th September: Three 4-second runs and a record 297mph from Barry Sheavills had the crowd jumping at the European Finals at Santa Pod Raceway this weekend and won Barry the FIA European Top Fuel Championship. The timing data for all Top Fuel runs and full 1st/2nd place results are on
TonyB's web site (timing data for other classes should be on-line tonight, report and pics to follow in the next couple of days). Race by race reports and final FIA championship points standings can be found at Svensk Dragracing. Results had not yet been posted at UK1320 when I checked this morning but no doubt they will be there shortly. And don't forget to check out the pics on Tog's Drag Racing Pages in a couple of days time.

1998 European Champions
The 1998 European Champions are as follow:
  • FIA Top Fuel Dragster: Barry Sheavills (UK)
  • FIA Top Alcohol Dragster: Peter Beck (Switzerland)
  • FIA Top Alcohol Funny Car: Leif Andreasson (Sweden)

  • FIM Supertwin Top Fuel Bike: Gerard Willemse (Netherlands)
  • FIM Pro Stock Bike: Roger Petterson (Sweden)
European Finals Updates
10th September: If you can't get to Santa Pod this weekend, never fear. Eurodragster and
Svensk Dragracing are teaming up to attempt to bring you updates at the end of each day's racing. Unfortunately, we haven't had the opportunity to test the connections but we're pretty confident that we should be able to overcome any problems. The updates will be posted on the Svensk web site.

Free email address
10th September: Fancy an email address such as yourname@dragracer.com? Pop along to http://www.dragracer.com to find out how you can get it FREE.
Note: I haven't tried this service but I guess they probably tag adverts onto the end of your mails, which could prove embarassing under some circumstances.

PRESSRELEASE FRÅN SVENSK DRAGRACING
9th September:
Spännande uppgörelser på Löven Drag Finals.

Mother & Daughter Super Comp Team
9th September: Linda Rřnning tells us that as she is too young (she's 17 in October) to drive her Super Comp car in her native Norway next season, she will share the driving with her mum Grete (Linda did give us her mum's age but I don't think Grete would thank us for telling the world). Mum will pilot the AutoMester dragster in the Norwegian heats. We wish them both the best of luck.

Svensson runs 6.14 at Indy
7th September: Sweden's Peter Svensson ran 6.14 on his Top Fuel Bike during an exhibition run at the U.S. Nationals. More details at the
U.S. Nationals web site.

Löven Drag Finals results
Results from the Löven Drag Finals are available at Svensk Dragracing.

FCs fly at Wings and Wheels Spectacular
After a long break, "Wild" Bill Sherratt returned to UK drag racing at the CSMA 75th Anniversary event at Santa Pod Raceway yesterday. Driving the DJB Showtime FC, Bill put in runs of 6.23 and 5.68 which brought the largely rookie crowd to their feet. Gordon Smith completed his Funny Car licensing schedule with a blower belt-tossing run of 6.13.

Chris Bates OK after field trip
Also at the CSMA event, Chris Bates was unhurt after the throttle stuck open on his Super Gasser and the car took a trip into the field alongside the shutdown area. Damage to the car was minor and Chris will be back at Santa Pod for next week's European Finals.

Press release from Svensk Dragracing
5th September:

Pro Mod points
Thanks to Dave Warne for the latest standings in the RAC UK Pro Mod Championship

Jackson just testing
2nd September: Alan Jackson was both tuning and driving Knut Soderqvist's Top Fuel Dragster during testing at Avon Park last weekend. Alan put in a launch and a half-pass, which witnesses say was more than a little out of shape. The Fueller recorded a 1.00 sixty-foot time on its half pass which implies a soft setup. Alan will be back in his Fuel Funny Car at the European Finals on September 11th-13th. Pictures of the Fueller will be available on
UK1320 by the end of this week. Thanks to Gareth Evans, Andy Bissett and Motoring News for the above information.
